Dzīvības Koks Has Been Acknowledged as the Best Organization of 2007
In 2007 the title of the best nongovernmental organization (NGO) and the LVL 1,000 prize was awarded to the Oncologic Patients Support Society: Dzīvības Koks at the festive event on 2 April.
The NGO Institute awards were granted in five more categories. The best organization in attracting funds in 2007 was acknowledged to be Latvijas Bērnu Fonds. The innovation award of the year was received by the Society Ideju Forums, which created the internet site www.pasakas.net. The award for promoting NGO sector recognition was given to Centrs Dardedze. The award for contribution into the work in the regions was given to the Talsu Novada Fonds. In 2007 one more nomination was established – for enthusiasm and persistence, to distinguish such organizations that for a long time have been capable of inspiring people and have proven that in the NGO work one of the most essential things is enthusiasm. This award was received by Malta’s Šaha Klubs (Rēzekne Region). Further information about the winners is available in the publication Labo Darbu Diena.
To thank for work and achievements of the organizations, as well as to motivate everyone to act similarly successively also in future, since 2005 the NGO Institute has established the prize competition to the best organizations of the year. This is an opportunity to evaluate one’s work, to demonstrate it to the colleagues and to the wider society. The NGO Institute prize can be awarded to any society or foundation that has obtained the public benefit organization status and is ready to apply for participation in the prize competition.
Application of the organization is evaluated by the independent jury, on the basis of the criteria elaborated by the NGO Institute. As every year, the Jury is made up of the state, private sector and media representatives, as well as the NGO experts – Andris Bērziņš (Head of the Latvijas Samariešu Apvienība), Guntis Bojārs (a journalist from Diena newspaper), Kintija Bulava (a journalist from Marta magazine), Rūta Dimanta (Chairman of the Board of the Ziedot Fund), Vita Diķe (Head of the Vītolu Fund), Mareks Indriksons (Chairman of the Board of AB.LV Sabiedriskā Labuma Fonds), Oskars Kastēns (Minister for Special Assignments for Society Integration Affairs), Irita Lukšo (Head of the Tax Payment Application Division of the Tax Policy Department of the Ministry of Finance), Ieva Morica (Head of the Baltic – American Partner Relations Programme), Uldis Siliņš (Marketing Specialist of the Dienas Bizness newspaper).
For the second year in succession, a partner of the NGO Institute prize competition is AB.LV Sabiedriskā Labuma Fonds, which provides financial support, so that the organizations could receive prizes and meet together during the arranged final festive event. The informative partner of the project is the Diena newspaper.
NVO Institute is the research and training programme of the Ziedot Fund for nongovernmental organizations that provides qualitative training programmes and researches on topical subjects for the nongovernmental organizations.
